Bhīmasena and Droṇa: Containment, Advance, and Recognition

Educational Q&A

The verse illustrates how wartime judgments often rest on visible power—here, reliance on Droṇa as an impenetrable barrier—yet such assessments can be ethically and strategically flawed when they ignore determination, skill, and higher guidance. It cautions against arrogance and overconfidence in a single protector.

Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna have entered Droṇa’s battle formation. Observing this, the Kaurava soldiers and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons conclude that the pair will not be able to break past Droṇa, treating him as the decisive obstacle on the battlefield.
