Garuḍa Array and the Ardhacandra Counter-Formation
tato 'nyaṃ ratham āsthāya tad dhanuḥ visphārya durmanāḥ
The verse highlights the tension between outward martial preparedness and inward distress: even in a dharma-framed war, the mind can be burdened, reminding readers that ethical action often carries psychological cost.
Sañjaya reports that a warrior (implied by context) shifts to another chariot, twangs his bow as a signal of readiness, yet is described as durmanāḥ—mentally troubled—indicating a change in circumstance and mood amid the battle.
