The verse underscores how identity in the Mahābhārata is often framed through lineage and meaningful epithets: a name like Āgneya signals a sacred or elemental association (with Agni), implying that moral and spiritual qualities are narrated through ancestry and designation.
Bhīṣma continues a genealogical account, stating that a woman previously mentioned gave birth to a son named Sudarśana, who bears the epithet Āgneya, indicating a connection with Agni.
