अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
दशनामसहस््राणि देवेष्वाह पितामह: । शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दशनामशतानि च,पितामह ब्रह्माने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंके निकट महादेवजीके दस हजार नाम बताये थे और शास््त्रोंमें भी उनके सहस्र नाम वर्णित हैं
daśanāmasahasrāṇi deveṣv āha pitāmahaḥ | śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśanāmaśatāni ca ||
পূৰ্বকালত পিতামহ ব্ৰহ্মাই দেৱসকলৰ সন্মুখত শৰ্ব (মহাদেৱ)ৰ দহ হাজাৰ নাম ঘোষণা কৰিছিল; তদ্ৰূপ শাস্ত্ৰসমূহতো তেওঁৰ শত শত নাম বৰ্ণিত আছে।
वायुदेव उवाच
That the remembrance and recitation of the deity’s many names is an authoritative, scripture-supported devotional practice, reflecting the many aspects through which the divine may be understood and worshipped.
Vāyu reports a traditional account: Brahmā once taught the gods an immense set of Śiva’s names, and he notes that scriptures preserve numerous such name-lists as well.
