Dharma should be learned not only as a set of rules but along with the subtle, often hidden roots of moral failure (doṣa). Attentive listening and mental composure are presented as prerequisites for ethical understanding.
A didactic section begins: the Wind-god Vāyu announces that he will briefly expound a happiness-giving dharma for humans and will also disclose the associated faults with their underlying ‘secrets,’ asking the audience to listen with focused minds.
