Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s Enumeration of Assembled Kṣatriyas
इक्ष्वाकूणां च येनाहमनृण: स्यां द्विजोत्तम । तत् त्वत्त: प्राप्तुमिच्छामि सर्ववेदविदां वर,समस्त वेदवेत्ताओंमें अग्रगण्य द्विजश्रेष्ठ) मैं आपसे एक पुत्र प्राप्त करना चाहता हूँ, जिसके द्वारा मैं अपने इक्ष्वाक॒ुवंशी पितरोंक ऋणसे उऋण हो सकूँ
ikṣvākūṇāṃ ca yenāham anṛṇaḥ syāṃ dvijottama | tat tvattaḥ prāptum icchāmi sarvavedavidāṃ vara ||
হে দ্বিজোত্তম, সকলো বেদবিদৰ মাজত শ্ৰেষ্ঠ! আপোনাৰ পৰা মই তেনে এক পুত্ৰ লাভ কৰিব বিচাৰোঁ, যাৰ দ্বাৰা মই মোৰ ইক্ষ্বাকুবংশীয় পিতৃপুরুষৰ ঋণৰ পৰা উঋণ হ’ব পাৰোঁ।
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse highlights pitṛ-ṛṇa—one’s obligation to ancestors—often understood as being discharged through righteous household life and continuation of lineage via a worthy son, framed within Vedic dharma.
Vasiṣṭha addresses a highly learned Brahmin (praised as ‘best among Veda-knowers’) and requests the boon of a son, explicitly stating that this will free him from the ancestral debt owed to the Ikṣvāku forefathers.
