Hiḍimbā’s Account and the Bhīma–Hiḍimba Engagement
sa bhavān pāṇḍavān āśu vivāsayitum iti | mṛdunā eva abhyupāyena nagaraṃ vāraṇāvatam |
The verse highlights how unethical aims can be pursued through outwardly ‘gentle’ or respectable methods; moral evaluation depends on intention and consequence, not merely on polite language or soft tactics.
Duryodhana urges an elder/authority figure to remove the Pāṇḍavas from the capital quickly by a mild-seeming pretext, directing them to Vāraṇāvata—part of the broader scheme to isolate and endanger them.
