जतुगृहदाहः — The Burning of the Lac House and the Pāṇḍavas’ Concealed Escape
स निरीक्ष्य महाबाहु: सर्वतो रड्भजमण्डलम् । प्रणाम द्रोणकृपयोर्नात्यादृतमिवाकरोत्,उस समय महाबाहु कर्णने रंगमण्डपमें सब ओर दृष्टि डालकर द्रोणाचार्य और कृपाचार्यको इस प्रकार प्रणाम किया, मानो उनके प्रति उसके मनमें अधिक आदरका भाव नहो
sa nirīkṣya mahābāhuḥ sarvato raṅgamaṇḍalam | praṇāma droṇakṛpayor nātyādṛtam ivākarot ||
তাৰ পাছত মহাবাহু কৰ্ণে ৰংগমণ্ডপটো চাৰিওফালে চাই দ্ৰোণ আৰু কৃপ—দুয়োকে প্ৰণাম কৰিলে; কিন্তু সেই প্ৰণামত যেন অন্তৰত বিশেষ শ্ৰদ্ধা নাছিল।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical gap that can arise between external propriety (offering a bow) and internal attitude (lack of true respect). It suggests that dharma is not merely ritual correctness but sincerity of intention toward elders and teachers.
Karṇa enters or stands in the arena, looks around at the assembled scene, and then offers salutations to Droṇa and Kṛpa. However, the narration notes that his bow appears perfunctory, implying restrained or absent reverence toward the preceptors.
