Droṇa’s Ācārya-Dakṣiṇā: Capture of Drupada and Division of Pāñcāla (द्रोण-आचार्यदक्षिणा)
यावत् पिबति बालो<यं तावदस्मै प्रदीयताम् । एवमस्त्विति तं नागं वासुकि: प्रत्यभाषत,“यह बालक जितना रस पी सके, उतना इसे दिया जाय।” यह सुनकर वासुकिने आर्यक नागसे कहा 'ऐसा ही हो”
yāvat pibati bālo 'yaṃ tāvad asmai pradīyatām | evam astv iti taṃ nāgaṃ vāsukiḥ pratyabhāṣata |
বৈশম্পায়নে ক’লে— এই বালকে যিমান ৰস পান কৰিব পাৰে, সিমানেই তাক দিয়া হওক। এই কথা শুনি বাসুকিয়ে সেই নাগক ক’লে— “তথাস্তু।”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights proportion and restraint in giving: provide what is appropriate to the recipient’s capacity, neither withholding unfairly nor enabling excess—an ethical balance aligned with dharma.
A proposal is made to give the boy as much as he can drink; Vāsuki, addressing the Nāga in question, agrees with the decision, saying “So be it,” thereby authorizing the measured grant.
