वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how sustained spiritual discipline (tapas) does not isolate one from social disorder; it introduces an ethical challenge: how a righteous person or sacred space should respond when confronted by wrongdoing, balancing compassion, restraint, and the duty to protect.
After a long period of austerities, a group of robbers carrying stolen goods arrives at the sage’s hermitage, creating an impending confrontation between the ascetic setting and criminal intrusion.
