The verse legitimizes the medical teachings by linking them to Viṣṇu as Dhanvantari and to the classical Ayurvedic authority Suśruta.
It introduces the chapter as a collection of nānā-yogāḥ—multiple therapeutic procedures intended to destroy diseases.
It encourages a lineage-based approach to health knowledge—learning remedies through authentic traditions and competent teachers rather than isolated tips.
