As stated in the Kaṭha Upaniṣad (1.2.23), yam evaiṣa vṛṇute tena labhyaḥ: “The Supersoul can be realized by that person whom He chooses.” Thus the gopīs fervently pray that Kṛṣṇa come back to them.
It shows the gopīs returning to the Yamunā’s bank, fully absorbed in Kṛṣṇa, and expressing their longing by singing—separation intensifies remembrance and loving dependence on Him.
Because they were yearning for Kṛṣṇa to return; assembling together, they voiced their love and longing in song at the very place connected with His pastimes.
Cultivate steady remembrance of Kṛṣṇa—especially when feeling distance or difficulty—by gathering with devotees, chanting, and singing His names and qualities with sincere longing.
