Sage Parāśara (in instruction to Maitreya)
Speaker: Parasara
Topic: Proper daily regimen: righteous recreation through śāstra and timely sandhyā worship
Teaching: Ethical
Quality: practical and prescriptive
Concept: One should spend the day in śāstra-grounded, wholesome recreation that does not oppose dharma, and then perform sandhyā with a concentrated mind.
Vedantic Theme: Dharma
Application: Replace distracting entertainment with edifying reading/recitation; set fixed times for morning/evening prayer or meditation.
Vishishtadvaita: Śāstra-centered living and sandhyā as daily remembrance harmonize knowledge and devotion directed to the Supreme (Viṣṇu) without rejecting worldly life.
Vishnu Form: Para-Brahman
Bhakti Type: Shanta
This verse presents Sandhyā as the daily spiritual hinge-point: after a day kept aligned with dharma, one should conclude by focused twilight observance, reinforcing purity, order, and steadiness of mind.
He allows “recreation,” but only of the sat-śāstra type—refreshment that does not conflict with the righteous path—followed by disciplined ritual practice performed with concentration.
Even when Vishnu is not named, the teaching serves Vaishnava dharma: regulated life, scriptural nourishment, and Sandhyā discipline are portrayed as ways of living in harmony with the Supreme Order upheld by Vishnu.
