Account of Sarasvatī’s Manifestation and the Humbling of the Devas
ततः सर्वप्रयत्नेनाकरोद्यत्नं सदागतिः । न चचाल यदा स्थानात्तदासौ लज्जितोऽभवत
tataḥ sarvaprayatnenākarodyatnaṃ sadāgatiḥ | na cacāla yadā sthānāttadāsau lajjito'bhavata
ثم إن ذلك الذي لا يهدأ بذل غاية الجهد بكل ما أوتي؛ فلما لم يتحرّك (الآخر) عن موضعه قيد أنملة، استولى عليه الخجل.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma Samhita episode to the sages)
Tattva Level: pashu
It highlights that mere forceful striving, when driven by restlessness or ego, fails before true steadiness; shame here signals the softening of pride, a necessary turn toward surrender to Pati (Shiva) in Shaiva Siddhanta.
The verse implies that Saguna Shiva’s presence (symbolized by the Linga’s immovable steadiness) is not ‘moved’ by ordinary agitation; devotion must mature into humility, steadiness, and reverent approach rather than coercive effort.
Cultivate steadiness through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a composed posture; pair it with simple Shaiva observances like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and mindful restraint of restlessness.
