Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: Continuing the Kāśī-mukti theme: Śiva promises to teach the ‘praṇavoddhāra’—the inner derivation/meaning of Oṃ—whose realized understanding itself yields the highest siddhi (mokṣa).
Significance: Kāśī is revered as the place where liberating knowledge is most accessible through Śiva’s direct instruction; hearing/remembering the teaching is itself meritorious.
Mantra: oṃ
Type: gayatri
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It declares that realized understanding of the Praṇava (Oṁ)—the seed of Śiva’s supreme consciousness—can itself become the cause of the highest siddhi, i.e., liberation-oriented attainment, not merely worldly powers.
In Shaiva Siddhanta framing, Oṁ functions as the subtle bridge between Saguna worship (such as Linga-pūjā with mantra and ritual) and the realization of Śiva as the supreme Pati; the verse elevates mantra-knowledge as the inner essence behind external worship.
Practical takeaway: meditate on and japa the Praṇava (Oṁ) with correct understanding (artha-bhāvanā), using it as a foundational mantra that supports deeper Shiva-mantra practice (including “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and leads the mind toward liberation.
