Tara’s Counsel to Vali on Sugriva’s Roar and Rama’s Alliance
त्वया तस्य निरस्तस्य पीडितस्य विशेषतः।इहैत्य पुनराह्वानं शङ्कां जनयतीव मे।।
tvayā tasya nirastasya pīḍitasya viśeṣataḥ |
ihait ya punar āhvānaṃ śaṅkāṃ janayatīva me || 4.15.11 ||
إنه—وقد صددته وأوجعته على وجه الخصوص—قد أتى إلى هنا ثانيةً ليدعوك إلى التحدّي من جديد؛ وهذا يثير في نفسي ريبةً حقًّا.
'One who is defeated and badly mauled by you is again coming and inviting you to a duel in this manner arouses suspicion in me.
Discernment (viveka) is part of dharma in governance and conflict: repeated provocation may indicate hidden support or deceit, so one should assess causes before acting.
Vāli reasons that Sugrīva’s renewed challenge is unusual after a prior defeat, and he suspects external backing.
