Description of Ayodhya under Daśaratha
na nāstiko nānṛtako na kaścid abahuśrutaḥ |
nāsūyako na cāśakto nāvidvān vidyate tadā ||1.6.14||
That time there was no atheist, no liar and none ignorant of the sastras. There was no one who was jealous, incompetent or illiterate.
Satya and vidyā are pillars of dharmic society: truthfulness, learning, and competence replace deceit, envy, and ignorance.
The narrator presents Ayodhyā as morally exemplary, emphasizing intellectual and ethical integrity among its people.
Truthfulness joined with learning—social trust grounded in knowledge and honesty.
