Rama’s Lament in Separation from Sita
sā nūnam āryā mama rākṣasena balād dhṛtā khaṃ samupetya bhīruḥ |
apasvaraṃ sasvaravipralāpā bhayena vikranditavaty abhīkṣṇam ||
O Lakshmana, all this sorrow calmed down when I came to this solitary forest. But with Sita's separation, it was rekindled just as fire blazes forth again with logs of wood.
The verse underscores the kṣatriya-dharma of protection: Rama’s anguish centers on Sita’s vulnerability and the duty to rescue the harmed and the innocent.
Rama infers Sita’s forced abduction and imagines her repeated cries while being carried through the sky.
Empathy and protective resolve—Rama’s mind dwells on Sita’s fear, motivating righteous action.
