Rama’s Lament in Separation from Sita
kāmaṁ tv idaṁ puṣpitavṛkṣaṣaṇḍaṁ nānāvidhaiḥ pakṣigaṇair upetam |
vanaṁ prayātā nu tad apy ayuktam ekākinī sā ’tibibhēti bhīruḥ ||
Could she have gone to the forest where there are many kinds of trees in full bloom inhabited by a variety of birds? That is also not possible as she is timid and too scared to go there alone.
Dharma includes realistic care for another’s safety: Rama’s search is guided by truthful assessment of Sita’s temperament and the risks of solitude.
Rama considers whether Sita wandered into a beautiful, bird-filled grove, then reasons that her fear of being alone makes it improbable.
Rama’s protective concern and careful inference; Sita’s modest, cautious disposition.
