Gaṅgā

FAQs

It praises both bathing/immersion in the Gaṅgā and drinking her water as acts that confer strong ritual and spiritual purification.

It expresses the Purāṇic idea that the merit of sacred acts can benefit one’s lineage (ancestors and descendants), here described as extending up to seven generations.

It emphasizes the extraordinary sanctifying power attributed to Gaṅgā water—even contact with human remains is portrayed as spiritually purifying, aligning with broader tīrtha and funerary-sacral themes.
