vinā maṃtreṇa yatsnānaṃ sarvaṃ tanniṣphalaṃ bhavet | amṛtātsvādutāmeti saṃsparśācca tilasya ca
Unspecified (narrative instruction within Adhyaya 49; likely within the Pulastya–Bhīṣma dialogue frame common to the Padma Purāṇa)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Sandhi Resolution Notes:
It stresses that ritual acts (like snāna) gain spiritual efficacy when performed with conscious sacred intention, expressed and structured through mantra; otherwise the act remains merely physical.
Sesame is presented as a purifying, auspicious substance: its contact is said to enhance the rite’s “sweetness” (beneficial result), symbolically likened to nectar.
It teaches mindfulness and correctness in religious practice: inner intention and prescribed method matter, and small traditional elements (like tilā) are valued as supports to sincerity and purity.
