Narrator (sectional Purāṇic narration; specific dialogue-speaker not explicit in this single verse)

Concept: Creation unfolds gradually (śanaiḥ) from a latent, sleep-like state; tapas can generate both siddhi and ‘vighna’—obstacles that externalize as disruptive forces.

Application: Pursue discipline patiently; expect obstacles during spiritual practice and meet them with steadiness rather than fear—vighnas are part of the path’s purification.

FAQs

It evokes the Purāṇic creation scene of the cosmic ocean (mahārṇava) and the lotus as a primordial, precious source/seat associated with Brahmā’s emergence and creative activity.

Madhu is identified as a “great asura.” This verse presents him as arising as a vighna—an impediment—connected with the period of tapas (austerity).

It suggests a cosmological vision where the creator is portrayed as suffused with, or constituted by, the universe—creation unfolding from a reality already permeated by cosmic totality.
