Colophon/narratorial closing formula (not a spoken verse within the dialogue)

Concept: Purāṇic transmission itself is a dharmic act: teachings are preserved through named dialogues and framed within Bhagavān’s līlā (here, Rāma’s yajña).

Application: Treat sacred study as a vrata of attention: read with continuity, honor sources/lineage, and integrate lessons into conduct.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: forest

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A manuscript-like closing tableau: palm-leaf folios and a scribe’s stylus rest beside a small lamp, while in the background a symbolic vignette shows Rāma’s Aśvamedha horse moving onward from Cyavana’s hermitage. Above, the words of the colophon appear as sacred calligraphy, sealing the chapter like a ritual conclusion.","primary_figures":["Śeṣa (as narrator-symbol)","Vātsyāyana (as listener-symbol)","Rāma (symbolic presence)","Aśvamedha horse (Hayagamana motif)"],"setting":"Temple-library or āśrama study corner with manuscripts; distant forest-hermitage vignette; ritual horse path implied.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp-flame gold","palm-leaf tan","ink black","royal blue","vermillion"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: manuscript-and-lamp foreground with gold leaf highlights, miniature inset of Rāma’s Aśvamedha horse departing the hermitage, Śeṣa as a divine canopy motif, rich reds/greens, ornate border and embossed gold calligraphic panel for the colophon text.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: quiet scholarly interior with delicate lamp glow, palm-leaf folios, a small inset landscape of the horse moving through a forest path near the hermitage, refined faces for symbolic Śeṣa–Vātsyāyana, cool blues and warm ochres in balance.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized lamp and manuscript, bold outlines, inset horse motif, Śeṣa as serpent-hood arch framing the colophon, red-yellow-green palette with deep blue background, temple-wall aesthetic.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: decorative border of lotuses and vines, central calligraphic cartouche for the colophon, inset scene of the Aśvamedha horse with attendants, deep blue ground with gold and vermilion accents, intricate textile patterning."}

FAQs

It is a colophon: a closing line that identifies the Purāṇa section, the dialogue frame (Śeṣa–Vātsyāyana), the topic (Rāma’s Aśvamedha), the setting (Cyavana’s hermitage), and the chapter title (Hayagamana).

Literally “the horse’s going/movement,” indicating a chapter focused on the progress or departure of the sacrificial horse connected with Rāma’s Aśvamedha narrative.

They are the named interlocutors of the surrounding narrative frame; the colophon records that the chapter belongs to their dialogue within the Pātāla-khaṇḍa.
