Description of the Pilgrimage to the Sacred Tīrthas
Kurukṣetra-yātrā-krama
somatīrthaṃ ca tatrānyattasminsnātvā ca mohini | caitre ṣaṣṭhyāṃ ca śuklāyāṃ śrāddhaṃ kṛtvoddharetpitṝn || 111 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: Śrāddha (Caitra-śukla-ṣaṣṭhī at Soma-tīrtha)
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches that bathing at Soma-tīrtha and performing śrāddha on a specific auspicious tithi (Caitra, bright ṣaṣṭhī) is a powerful dharmic act that benefits and uplifts one’s pitṛs (ancestors).
By emphasizing tīrtha-snana and śrāddha as offerings done with faith and reverence, the verse supports bhakti expressed through traditional duties—honoring sacred places and serving one’s lineage through ritual devotion.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) and Jyotiṣa (tithi-based timing) are implied: the verse specifies the month (Caitra) and lunar day (śukla-ṣaṣṭhī) as the correct ritual time for performing śrāddha.
