The Question about Mohinī
mṛtā hyapi tathānnena prīyante pitaro divi | karkaṃdhumātraṃ prahutaṃ puroḍāśaṃ hi devatāḥ || 37 ||
Suta (narrating the teaching within the Uttara-Bhaga context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It teaches that sincere, properly performed offerings—especially food in Śrāddha and oblations in yajña—reach subtle recipients: Pitṛs in divi and the Devatās, showing that correctness and devotion matter more than quantity.
By emphasizing that even a tiny offering, when made with faith and according to vidhi, pleases higher beings; this reflects the bhakti principle that heartfelt intention and reverence can make simple acts spiritually effective.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied: the verse stresses prahuta—“duly offered”—and mentions puroḍāśa, pointing to correct Śrauta/Smārta ritual method and measurements rather than lavish expenditure.
