Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
tena tīrthaṃ kṛtaṃ puṇyaṃ svena nāmnā ca viśrutam | tatra snātvā naro rājan dharmaśīlaḥ samāhitaḥ ||
The verse links outer ritual (bathing at a tīrtha) with inner ethics: true benefit is framed as becoming dharma-minded and mentally composed, not merely performing an act.
The speaker describes a particular holy place founded by a revered figure and famous by his name, then states the spiritual-ethical effect for a person who bathes there—especially one devoted to dharma and mental steadiness.
