yudhiṣṭhira uvāca svadharme sthiratā sthairyaṃ dhairyam indriyanigrahaḥ | snānaṃ manomalatyāgo dānaṃ vai bhūtarakṣaṇam ||
Righteous life is defined not by a single act but by a disciplined character: fidelity to one’s own duty, inner steadiness, courage, sensory restraint, outer and inner purity, generosity, and compassionate protection of all beings.
In the Vana Parva context, Yudhiṣṭhira articulates a concise list of virtues that constitute dharmic conduct, presenting an ethical standard grounded in self-mastery, purification, and benevolence.
