The colophon marks the completion of the Sāvitrī episode within the glorification of pativratā-dharma, underscoring the Mahābhārata’s ethical emphasis that steadfast commitment to dharma—especially fidelity, truthfulness, and resolve—has profound moral and transformative force.
The speaker Vaiśampāyana formally closes the chapter/episode: it is an editorial-style ending line (colophon) identifying the text (Mahābhārata), the larger book (Vana Parva), the internal section (Pativratā-māhātmya), and the specific sub-tale (Sāvitrī-upākhyāna), stating that the chapter is complete.
