संतापित: पिता माता वयं चैव नृपात्मज । कस्मादिति न जानीमस्तत् सर्व वक्तुमहसि,राजपुत्र! तुमने आनेमें विलम्ब करके अपने माता-पिता तथा हमलोगोंको भी भारी संतापमें डाल दिया था। तुमने ऐसा क्यों किया? यह हम नहीं जान पाते हैं, अतः सब बातें स्पष्ट रूपसे बताओ
santāpitaḥ pitā mātā vayaṃ caiva nṛpātmaja | kasmād iti na jānīmas tat sarvaṃ vaktum arhasi rājaputra ||
قال ماركاندييا: «يا أيها الأمير، إن تأخرك في العودة قد أوقع أباك وأمك ونحن أيضًا في كربٍ شديد. لا ندري لِمَ فعلت ذلك. لذلك ينبغي أن تخبرنا بكل شيءٍ بوضوح.»
