Chapter 270: Slaying of Prahasta; Defeat of Dhūmrākṣa; Awakening of Kumbhakarṇa
वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! तदनन्तर भूमण्डलके श्रेष्ठतम धनुर्थर पाँचों कुन्तीकुमार सब दिशाओंमें घूम-फिरकर हिंसक पशुओं, वराहों और जंगली भैंसोंको मारकर पृथक्-पृथक् विचरते हुए एक साथ हो गये
Vaiśampāyana uvāca—Janamejaya! tadanantaraṁ bhūmaṇḍalasya śreṣṭhatamāḥ dhanurdharāḥ pañca Kuntīkumārāḥ sarvadiśaṁ paribhramya hiṁsaka-paśūn varāhān vanyamahīṣāṁś ca hatvā pṛthak-pṛthag vicarantaḥ punar ekatra samāgatāḥ.
قال فَيْشَمْبَايَنَة: «يا جَنَمَيْجَيَا، بعد ذلك طاف أبناءُ كُنْتِي الخمسة—وهم أبرعُ رماةِ القِسيّ على وجه الأرض—في كل الجهات. وبعد أن قتلوا الوحوشَ الضارية والخنازيرَ البرية وجواميسَ البر، تفرّقوا زمناً يسيراً ثم اجتمعوا من جديد.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya responsibility in the wilderness: removing threats (dangerous animals) while maintaining discipline and coordination—separating to range widely, yet reuniting to preserve collective strength and purpose.
During the forest period, the five Pāṇḍava brothers roam in different directions, kill dangerous animals such as boars and wild buffaloes, and then regroup, indicating both survival activity and continued martial readiness.
