Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds dharmic conduct toward spiritual elders: when a realized ascetic approaches, a ruler like Yudhiṣṭhira responds with alert respect and readiness to offer proper reception, reflecting the ethical ideal of honoring wisdom and practicing hospitality.

A great yogin arrives to see the Pāṇḍavas during their forest period. Yudhiṣṭhira notices the visitor’s arrival and turns his attention toward him, setting up the ensuing interaction (welcome, inquiry, counsel, or boon) typical of sage-king encounters in the Vana Parva.
