Vyāsa’s Consolation to Yudhiṣṭhira: Tapas, Kāla, and the Difficulty of Dāna
tataḥ sutumulaṃ yuddhaṃ gandharvāṇāṃ tarasvinām | babhūva bhīmavegānāṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ ca bhārata ||
The verse highlights how quickly force and pride can escalate into a chaotic battle; it implicitly invites reflection on kṣatriya valor tempered by restraint, since sheer might alone does not resolve the ethical stakes of conflict.
Vaiśampāyana reports that a violent, uproarious fight erupts between the powerful Gandharvas and the Pāṇḍavas, whose charge is described as Bhīma-like in speed and intensity.
