Kaurava Court Hears of the Pāṇḍavas’ Forest Hardship

eṣa cej janayed garbhaḥ so 'syā devyāḥ patir bhavet | evaṃ saṃcintya bhagavān brahmalokaṃ tadā gataḥ |

Educational Q&A

The passage emphasizes dharmic restraint and proper deliberation: even powerful beings should not act merely on desire or convenience, but should seek a match grounded in virtue, fitness, and legitimate sanction—here symbolized by approaching Brahmā for an appropriate husband for the goddess.

Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that, after considering who could beget a child fit to become the goddess’s husband, the illustrious deity (in the surrounding context, Indra with the gods) goes to Brahmaloka and petitions Brahmā to provide a worthy, heroic, good-natured husband for her.
