Skanda’s Consecration as Devasenāpati
कुमारश्न यथोत्पन्नो यथा चाग्ने: सुतो5भवत् | यथा रुद्राच्च सम्भूतो गड़ायां कृत्तिकासु च,कुमार कार्तिकेयकी उत्पत्ति कैसे हुई? वे अग्निके पुत्र कैसे हुए? भगवान् शंकरने तथा गंगादेवी और कृत्तिकाओंसे उनका जन्म कैसे सम्भव हुआ?
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |
kumāraḥ kathaṃ yathotpannaḥ yathā cāgneḥ suto 'bhavat |
yathā rudrācca sambhūto gaṅgāyāṃ kṛttikāsu ca ||
قال يودهيشثيرا: «كيف وُلِد الإله الفتى كُمارا؟ وبأيّ وجه صار ابنًا لأغني، إله النار؟ وكيف اتصلت ولادته برودرا (شيفا)، وبإلهة النهر غانغا، وبالكِرْتِّيكات؟»
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse frames a dharmic inquiry into complex causality: a single being may be linked to multiple sources (Śiva, Agni, Gaṅgā, and the Kṛttikās) without contradiction, highlighting how divine narratives integrate different agencies to express cosmic order and sacred responsibility.
Yudhiṣṭhira asks for an account of Kumāra/Skanda/Kārttikeya’s origin—specifically how he is called Agni’s son, how he is connected to Rudra (Śiva), and how Gaṅgā and the Kṛttikās function as channels or mothers in his birth.
