Skanda’s Consecration as Devasenāpati
तत्र नानाविधानग्नीन् प्रवक्ष्यामि महाप्रभान् । कर्मभिर्बहुभि: ख्यातान् नानार्थान् ब्राह्मणेष्विह
tatra nānāvidhān agnīn pravakṣyāmi mahāprabhān | karmabhir bahubhiḥ khyātān nānārthān brāhmaṇeṣv iha ||
«هناك سأصفُ أنواعَ النيرانِ المقدّسة المتعدّدة—المتألّقةَ العظيمةَ الشأن—المشهورةَ بكثرةِ الطقوسِ والأعمال، والتي يعرفها البراهمةُ هنا على أنها تؤدّي أغراضًا شتّى.»
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
That sacred fires are not a single, uniform concept: Brahminical tradition recognizes multiple kinds of ritual fires, each established and made authoritative through specific karmas (rites), and each serving distinct religious aims.
Mārkaṇḍeya begins an instructional passage, announcing that he will enumerate and explain various powerful, radiant ritual fires, noted in Brahmin practice for their different functions and purposes.
