स्कन्दोपाख्यानम् — उत्पातशान्तिः, स्वाहारूपविचारः, कौमारमङ्गलक्रियाः
व्याध उवाच पिता माता च भगवन्नेतौ मद्दैवतं परम् । यद् दैवतेभ्य: कर्तव्यं तदेताभ्यां करोम्पयहम्,धर्मव्याध बोला--भगवन्! ये माता-पिता ही मेरे प्रधान देवता हैं। जो कुछ देवताओंके लिये करना चाहिये, वह मैं इन्हीं दोनोंके लिये करता हूँ
vyādha uvāca | pitā mātā ca bhagavann etau mad-daivataṃ param | yad daivatebhyaḥ kartavyaṃ tad etābhyāṃ karomy aham ||
قال الصيّاد: «أيها المبجَّل، إن أبي وأمي—هذان هما أسمى ألوهيتي. وكل خدمة تُعَدّ واجبة للآلهة، فإني أؤدي تلك الخدمة بعينها لهما.»
व्याध उवाच
True dharma can be practiced through devoted service to one’s parents; honoring and caring for them is treated as the highest form of worship, equivalent to offerings made to the gods.
In the dialogue where the Dharma-vyādha instructs a seeker about righteousness, he explains his own standard of conduct: he regards his parents as his supreme deities and directs toward them the duties people ordinarily reserve for divine worship.
