Adhyāya 208: Aṅgirasī-kanyāḥ

गुरुशुश्रूषणं सत्यमक्रोधो दानमेव च । एतच्चतुष्टयं ब्रह्मन् शिष्टाचारेषु नित्यदा,ब्रह्मन! शिष्टाचारी पुरुषोंमें गुरुकी सेवा, सत्य-भाषण, क्रोधका अभाव तथा दान-ये चार सदगुण सदा रहते हैं
guruśuśrūṣaṇaṁ satyam akrodho dānam eva ca | etac catuṣṭayaṁ brahman śiṣṭācāreṣu nityadā ||
قال الصيّاد: «خدمة المعلّم بإجلال، والصدق، وترك الغضب، والكرم بالعطاء—هذه الأربع، يا أيها البرهمن، ملازمةٌ على الدوام لمن يسلك سلوك المهذّبين المنضبطين.»
व्याध उवाच
True refinement (śiṣṭācāra) is marked by four steady virtues: serving and honoring the teacher/elders, speaking truth, remaining free from anger through self-restraint, and practicing generosity.
In the Vyādha’s instruction to a Brahmin, the speaker summarizes the ethical hallmarks of ‘cultured conduct,’ presenting a concise fourfold standard by which a person’s dharma can be recognized.
