Kuvalāśva’s Lineage and Uttaṅka’s Petition concerning Dhundhu (धुन्धु-प्रसङ्गः)
स श्र॒ुत्वाचिन्तयन्नेह मनुष्यगतिं पश्यामि कस्य खल्वयं गीतशब्द इति,“उसे सुनकर राजा सोचने लगे कि “यहाँ मनुष्योंकी गति तो नहीं दिखायी देती। फिर यह किसके गीतका शब्द सुनायी देता है”
sa śrutvā cintayann iha manuṣyagatiṁ paśyāmi kasya khalv ayaṁ gītaśabda iti
فلما سمعه أخذ يتفكّر: «لا أرى هنا أثرًا لوجود بشر. فلمن يكون صوت الغناء الذي يُسمَع؟»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights careful discernment: one should not accept appearances or sounds at face value, but investigate their source, especially when circumstances contradict ordinary expectations (a song heard where no human presence is evident).
A king hears the sound of singing. Not seeing any signs of human movement or presence in that place, he becomes puzzled and asks himself whose song it could be.
