Indradyumna Upākhyāna: On Kīrti, Smṛti, and Restoration
mlecchī bhūtaṃ jagat sarvaṃ bhaviṣyati na saṃśayaḥ | hasto hastaṃ parimuṣed yugānte samupasthite ||
The verse warns that as the yuga declines, dharma erodes into social barbarization: trust collapses, greed dominates, and even natural bonds like brotherhood fail—highlighting the ethical necessity of self-restraint and protection of rightful property.
Mārkaṇḍeya is describing ominous future conditions at yugānta (the end of an age), portraying a world where people become ‘mleccha-like’ and mutual plunder becomes normal, even within families.
