Indradyumna Upākhyāna: On Kīrti, Smṛti, and Restoration
Mlecchabhūtaṃ jagat sarvaṃ niṣkriyaṃ yajñavarjitam | Bhaviṣyati nirānandam anutsavam atho tathā ||
When yajña (sacred duty, offering, and disciplined religious life) is abandoned, society loses both inner joy and shared ethical culture; the verse warns that neglect of dharma leads to a joyless, festival-less world.
Mārkaṇḍeya is describing a future decline of the world’s dharmic order, portraying an age in which people give up auspicious works and sacrificial rites, resulting in social and spiritual desolation.
