Gandhamādana-praveśa and the Sudden Storm (गन्धमादनप्रवेशः — चण्डवातवर्षवर्णनम्)
viṣṇur uvāca na te mahi bhayaṁ kāryaṁ bhārārte vasudhāriṇi | aham evaṁ tathā kurmi yathā laghvī bhaviṣyasi ||
When the world is weighed down by destructive forces, fear is not the final response; restoration of balance (dharma) is assured through timely, purposeful action—here voiced as Viṣṇu’s commitment to relieve Earth’s burden.
Earth, personified as Mahī/Vasudhāriṇī, is described as suffering under an unbearable burden. Viṣṇu addresses her directly, reassuring her not to fear and promising an immediate plan that will make her ‘light’ again—i.e., reduce the oppressive weight and restore equilibrium.
