The Birth and Career Account of Māndhātṛ
प्रजाश्षतुर्विधास्तेन त्राता राजन् कृतात्मना | तेनात्मतपसा लोकास्तापिताश्षातितेजसा
prajāś caturvidhās tena trātā rājan kṛtātmanā | tenātmatapasā lokās tāpitāś cātitejasā ||
قال لوماشا: «يا أيها الملك، به—وهو ضابطٌ لنفسه شديدُ الانضباط—حُميت طبقات الرعية الأربع. وبحرارة نسكه الباطني جعل ذلك المتلألئ جدًّا العوالمَ تذوق قوته المُحرِقة.»
लोमश उवाच
A ruler’s legitimacy and effectiveness rest on self-mastery (kṛtātmatā) and disciplined austerity (tapas): inner restraint generates moral power (tejas) that enables the protection and ordering of society.
Lomaśa, addressing the king, praises a powerful figure’s righteous governance: he protected the people (described as fourfold) and, through intense inner austerity and brilliance, exerted a formidable influence felt across the worlds.
