Cyavana’s Sacrifice and the Aśvins’ Soma Dispute
एवमुक्त: स्मयन्निन्द्रमभिवीक्ष्य स भार्गव: । जग्राह विधिवत् सोममश्रिभ्यामुत्तमं ग्रहम्,उनके ऐसा कहनेपर च्यवन मुनिने मुसकराते हुए इन्द्रकी ओर देखकर अश्विनीकुमारोंके लिये विधिपूर्वक उत्तम सोमरस हाथमें लिया
evam uktaḥ smayann indram abhivīkṣya sa bhārgavaḥ | jagrāha vidhivat somam aśribhyām uttamaṃ graham ||
فلما قال إندرا ذلك، ابتسم الحكيم البهارغفا (تشيَفانا) ونظر إلى إندرا، ثم تناول السُّوما على وفق الشعائر—كأسَ السَّكبِ الفاخر—ليقدّمه للتوأمين الأشفينيَّين.
लोगश उवाच
Dharma is upheld through correct conduct and fairness: even powerful figures should not deny rightful participation. The sage’s calm adherence to ritual law (vidhivat) models ethical steadiness against intimidation.
After Indra’s statement, the sage Cyavana (a Bhārgava) smiles, looks at Indra, and formally takes the Soma-cup meant for the Aśvin twins—signaling his resolve to grant them their due share in the sacrifice.
