The verse emphasizes divinely appointed roles: the heroic ‘Nara’ and the divine ‘Nārāyaṇa’ manifest together at the proper time (kāla) to uphold dharma. It frames human excellence and divine guidance as complementary forces working in concert for cosmic order.
The speaker identifies two figures as the famed pair Nara and Nārāyaṇa—twin seer-incarnations—stating that they have arrived in the world at an appointed moment. This functions as a revelation of identity and purpose within the unfolding events of the Vana Parva.
