Bhāgīratha’s Tapas and the Petition to Gaṅgā (गङ्गावतरण-प्रसङ्गः)
स वत्रे तुरगं तत्र प्रथमं यज्ञकारणात् । द्वितीयं वरक॑ वत्रे पितृणां पावनेच्छया,अंशुमानने पहले तो यज्ञकार्यकी सिद्धिके लिये वहाँ उस अश्वके लिये प्रार्थना की और दूसरा वर अपने पितरोंको पवित्र करनेकी इच्छासे माँगा
sa vavre turagaṃ tatra prathamaṃ yajñakāraṇāt | dvitīyaṃ varaṃ vavre pitṝṇāṃ pāvanecchayā |
قال ساغارا: «هناك طلبتُ أولًا الحصانَ من أجل إتمام القربان (اليَجْنَة). ثم طلبتُ نعمةً ثانية، مدفوعًا برغبةٍ في تطهير أسلافي، فالتَمَستُ تقديسَهم.»
सगर उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as twofold responsibility: completing one’s public-sacred duty (restoring the sacrificial horse to fulfill the yajña) and honoring one’s lineage through concern for the spiritual welfare of the ancestors (pitṛ-pāvana).
Sagara explains the two boons he sought: first, the recovery of the horse needed to complete the sacrifice; second, a boon aimed at purifying or redeeming his forefathers, indicating a shift from immediate ritual completion to broader ancestral salvation.
