Āraṇyaka-parva, Adhyāya 1 — The Pandavas’ Exit from Gajasāhvaya and the Citizens’ Lament
kva gamiṣyatha bhadraṃ vo tyaktvāsmān duḥkhabhāginaḥ | vayam apy anuyāsyāmo yatra yūyaṃ gamiṣyatha |
The verse highlights steadfast loyalty and shared responsibility in suffering: true companions do not abandon the afflicted but choose to share their hardship, expressing solidarity as an ethical response to separation and distress.
As the Pāṇḍavas are about to depart (toward forest-exile), those attached to them lament the separation and declare that they will follow wherever the Pāṇḍavas go, unwilling to be left behind in grief.
