Kṛṣṇa’s Counsel to Dhṛtarāṣṭra in the Assembly
uttiṣṭhati mahārāje dhṛtarāṣṭre janeśvare | tāni rājasahasrāṇi samuttiṣṭhuḥ samanantataḥ ||
The verse highlights rājanīti and dharma in social conduct: honoring legitimate authority through disciplined public behavior. Such outward respect sustains order in assemblies, especially when decisions with grave ethical consequences—like war—are imminent.
In the royal gathering, Dhṛtarāṣṭra stands up, and the many kings present immediately rise as well, showing formal deference and acknowledging his status as the presiding sovereign.
