Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 71 — Kṣatra-dharma Counsel, Public Legitimacy, and Mobilization
pitā rājā ca vṛddhaś ca sarvathā mānam arhati | tasmān mānyaś ca pūjyaś ca dhṛtarāṣṭro janārdana ||
The verse teaches dharma as reverence toward those who hold inherently venerable roles—father, king, and elder—implying that social and familial order is sustained by honoring such figures even amid conflict.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations and counsel, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana) and affirms that Dhṛtarāṣṭra, as an elder and kingly father-figure, remains deserving of respect and veneration from the Pāṇḍavas.
