अध्याय ६६: संजयेन जनार्दन-प्रभाववर्णनम्

Sañjaya on Janārdana’s Decisive Sovereignty

संजय उवाच नत्वां ब्रूयां रहिते जातु किंचि- दसूया हि त्वां प्रविशेत राजन्‌ । आनयस्व पितरं महाव्रतं गान्धारी च महिषीमाजमीढ,संजयने कहा--राजन्‌! एकान्तमें तो मैं आपसे कभी कोई बात नहीं कह सकता, क्योंकि इससे आपके हृदयमें दोषदर्शनकी भावना उत्पन्न होगी। अजमीढनन्दन! आप अपने महान्‌ व्रतधारी पिता व्यासजी और महारानी गान्धारीको भी यहाँ बुलवा लीजिये

sañjaya uvāca | na tvāṃ brūyāṃ rahite jātu kiñcid asūyā hi tvāṃ praviśet rājan | ānayāsva pitaraṃ mahāvrataṃ gāndhārīṃ ca mahiṣīm ājamīḍha ||

قال سَنْجَيَا: «أيها الملك، لا أُحدّثك بهذا في خلوةٍ قط، لئلا يدخل الشكّ وروحُ التماس العيب إلى قلبك. يا من أنت من نسل أَجَمِيضَة، استدعِ إلى هنا أباك فياسا، العظيمَ في مراعاة النذور، واستدعِ كذلك الملكة غاندھاري.»

Educational Q&A

Important counsel should be given transparently and with appropriate witnesses when a listener may misconstrue it; otherwise asūyā—suspicious fault-finding—can arise and distort judgment. Ethical speech considers not only truth but also the hearer’s mental disposition and the setting.

Sanjaya, addressing King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, refuses to speak in strict privacy because it could provoke suspicion. He asks the king to call Vyāsa (revered elder and ascetic authority) and Queen Gāndhārī so that the discussion occurs in a more accountable, balanced presence.
