Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 50 — Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Bhīmasena (भीमसेनभयवर्णनम्)
bhīṣma-pratāpāt kuravo nayenāndhaka-vṛṣṇayaḥ | yajas tasya vaśe jagmuḥ kevalaṃ daivam eva tat ||
The verse juxtaposes human agency (valor and political prudence) with daiva (destiny), suggesting that even strong leadership and sound policy do not fully determine outcomes; some results are attributed to forces beyond human control.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra reflects on how Bhīṣma’s influence and Kuru strategy affected relations with the Andhaka–Vṛṣṇi clans, emphasizing that their not being brought under another’s domination is ultimately explained as a matter of fate.
